The Landesbank Saar ( SaarLB for short ) is a legal entity under public law with headquarters in Saarbrücken and the largest credit and Pfandbrief institute in Saarland . In 2018 the balance sheet total was around 15 billion euros. The core markets are Saarland and France , especially the northeast of the country.

Until December 31, 2013, the shareholders of SaarLB were Bayerische Landesbank (BayernLB, 49.9 percent), Saarland (35.2 percent) and Sparkassenverband Saar (14.9 percent), after the Bayerische Landesbank in the context of the financial crisis in June 2010 sold a share of 25.2 percent to Saarland for 65 million euros. This shareholding changed with effect from September 30, 2013, as the Saarland savings banks converted previously held silent partnership contributions into so-called “hard core capital”. The participation rates on this date were 43.92 percent for BayernLB, 30.98 percent for the Saarland and 25.10 percent for the Sparkassenverband Saar.

Effective January 1, 2014, BayernLB sold its remaining shares to Saarland, so that Saarland now holds 74.90 percent and the Savings Banks Association holds 25.10 percent in SaarLB.
