Sabal  × brazoriensis is a nature hybrid of the genus Sabal within the palm family (Arecaceae). About 300 copies of this palm hybrid have been identified in southern Texas . Sabal × brazoriensis probably originated from the two species Sabal minor and Sabal palmetto .

description

Sabal × brazoriensis grows slowly and is similar to the Sabal minor . This palm hybrid, however, with its stronger and taller trunk, can reach a height of up to 9 meters. The fronds are fan-shaped and resemble those of the Sabal minor in appearance . After the flowering period in June, the fruits grow in late summer and early autumn. The fruits can be easily distinguished from Sabal minor by their small size .

distribution

So far, an occurrence of about 300 specimens of Sabal × brazoriensis is known only in Brazoria County in the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge south of Houston .
