Sabina Ddumba
Sabina Ddumba (born February 23, 1994 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish singer .
Life
Ddumba, who has Ugandan ancestry, grew up in Fiskätra in the municipality of Nacka . Her father fled Uganda when Idi Amin ruled the country as a dictator and worked as a pastor in Sweden. Her mother later moved back to Uganda and Ddumba stayed in Sweden with her siblings and father. In her religious family she got to know gospel music and she became a member of the Stockholm gospel choir Tensta Gospel Choir . At the age of 15 she sang backing vocals for Jenny Wilson for the first time and she was part of her tour afterwards. After this first assignment, she began to sing more backing vocals. Ddumba was involved in the backing vocals of Walking on Air by Katy Perry in 2013 . In 2012 she took part in the Swedish version of The X Factor .
In 2014, Ddumba released their first single, Scarred for Life . She was then signed by Warner Music Group in the USA . The following year the single Effortless followed , which went platinum in Sweden . For her first two singles she received an award in the “Newcomer” category at the Swedish Grammis Music Prize in 2016 . Their first album, which got the title Homeward Bound , was released by Ddumba in 2016. The album Så Mycket Bättre 2017: Tolkningarna came out the following year. This is a compilation of the songs she sang on the Swedish TV show Så mycket bättre .
style
Ddumba herself says that in her youth she was influenced by European pop music as well as music from various African countries and gospel music . Their music mixes influences from these genres.
