Sabine Bastian

Sabine Bastian (* 10. September 1948 as Sabine Hofmann in Leipzig ) is a German language and translation scientist . She researches and teaches as a university professor at the Institute for Applied Linguistics and Translatology (IALT) of the Philological Faculty of the University of Leipzig .

Life

Sabine Bastian studied from 1967 to 1971 at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig, where she graduated as a qualified interpreter and translator for the languages ​​French and Russian. She then worked until 1973 as part of a research study in the field of Romance linguistics and translation studies at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig and received her doctorate in 1974 with a dissertation on "The role of pre-information in the analysis of journalistic and fictional texts in French and Germans ". From 1973 to 1983 she worked at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig in the Theoretical and Applied Linguistics section as a research assistant and senior assistant before moving to the August Leskien Institute, where she continued to train language teachers until 1992 and language mediators.

In 1991 she completed her habilitation at the University of Leipzig on the subject of "The problem of norms in the contemporary French language with special consideration of the 'français parlé'" as a contribution to the determination of teaching norms for the training and further education of language mediators .

Since 2008 she has been researching and teaching as a full professor for translatology (francophone cultures) at the Institute for Applied Linguistics and Translatology (IALT) at the University of Leipzig. She is currently also a visiting professor at the University of Cergy-Pontoise near Paris in the field of sociolinguistics .

She has been married since 1971, has two children and lives in Krippehna near Leipzig.
