Sabine Niels (born June 11, 1973 in Berlin ) is a German politician (formerly Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ; now Bündnis Fürstenwalder Zukunft ). From 2009 to 2014 she was a member of the Brandenburg state parliament and has been a member of the Fürstenwalde / Spree city council since 2019 .

Life and politics

After graduating from high school in 1993 and completing the voluntary social year , Niels completed an apprenticeship as a curative nurse from 1994-1996 and worked in this profession until 2001. Between 2001 and 2004 she worked as an organic farmer in Müncheberg . In 2005 she began studying social sciences at Berlin's Humboldt University , which she graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2009.

From 2006 to 2009 Sabine Niels was spokeswoman for the Oder-Spree district association of BÜNDNIS 90 / DIE GRÜNEN. She has been a member of the district council there since 2008. In the state elections in 2009 she was elected to third place in the state parliament of Brandenburg via the state list. There she was a member of the Legal Affairs Committee and the Committee on Europe and Development Policy. In January 2011, Sabine Niels was also elected to the judges' selection committee.

Sabine Niels was agricultural policy and mining policy spokeswoman for the faction of ALLIANCE 90 / THE GREENS in the Brandenburg state parliament. On October 22, 2012, she resigned from her parliamentary group and, after mediation , rejoined it on December 11, 2012. After the state elections in Brandenburg in 2014 , she left the state parliament. Niels did not stand for election again because she was in favor of the rotation principle.

From June 2014 to October 2017 Sabine Niels was chairwoman of the Alliance 90 / THE GREENS & Pirates group in the Oder-Spree district.

In 2019 she changed political camp and ran for the "Brandenburg United Citizens Movements and Free Voters" in constituency 2 (Fürstenwalde / Odervorland) on the list position 4 for the district election.

In the election for the Fürstenwalder City Council in 2019, Niels entered the list of the Bündnis Fürstenwalder Zukunft (BFZ) and achieved eighth place in the BFZ list with 310 votes and thus missed a mandate in the city council. However, due to the fact that the elected BFZ applicant Carola Rudolph waived her mandate, Niels moved up to the constituent meeting of the city council.

Trivia

Sabine Niels received special attention when she and her daughter stepped up to the lectern in the Landtag plenum in February 2014. This made her the first female parliamentarian in Brandenburg to speak in the state parliament with a child in her arms.
