Sabine Steinbach
Sabine Steinbach (born July 18, 1952 in Chemnitz , after marrying Sabine Klemm ) is a former swimmer who competed for the GDR .
Career
Sabine Steinbach from SC Karl-Marx-Stadt started at the European Swimming Championships in 1966 as the youngest participant and took seventh place over 100 m butterfly. In 1967 she won the European Youth Championships on both individual medley courses. In 1968 she won the GDR championships over 400 meter medley and took second place over 200 meter medley behind Marianne Seydel . At the Olympic Games in 1968 Steinbach and Seydel reached the finals on both individual layers. While Seydel took sixth place in each case, Steinbach reached fourth place on the short individual medley course and won the bronze medal over 400 meters medley behind the US swimmers Claudia Kolb and Lynette Vidall .
Sabine Steinbach stopped swimming in 1970 and later worked as a cook.
