Kevin Abbring (born January 20, 1989 in Eindhoven ) is a Dutch rally driver.
Career
Kevin Abbring started his racing career in the junior rallycross series . At the age of 16, he won the Dutch and Belgian titles three times. He had his first rally experience at the age of 17. Abbring started in 2006 as a co-driver of his father Edwin in the Belgian championship. In the 2007 season Kevin Abbring got behind the wheel himself and won the Mitsubishi Colt Cup , part of the Belgian championship. In 2008, Abbring made the step into the Junior World Rally Championship (JWRC). In a Renault Clio R3, he won a special stage at the Rallye Deutschland. In 2009 Abbring stayed in the JWRC and won in Poland, making him not only the first Dutchman to be included in the JWRC winners list, but also the youngest winner to date at the age of 20.
Another JWRC season followed in 2010. In that season he won 13 special stages and the Rally Portugal . The lack of funding prevented another year in the JWRC, instead Abbring drove the French gravel championship and became champion in a Citroën DS3 R3 2WD.
In 2011 Abbring completed his first WRC outings for Volkswagen. With a class win in the Škoda Fabia S2000 at the Rally Great Britain , things went very well and he was awarded the FIA Institute Driver of the Year award in the WRC2 class. In 2012 he won the WRC2 class in Monte Carlo . However, he could no longer convince in the following three rallies. In Mexico he was undone by a technical problem, in Portugal he had an accident in the shakedown and in Great Britain he was classified in tenth place.
After a rather disappointing year, Abbring returned to France in 2013 and celebrated victory in the Volant Peugeot Cup with a Peugeot 208 VTi R2 . In the ERC 2014 he was on the podium twice (Peugeot 208 T16 R5) and recorded a class win at the Rally France. In 2014 Abbring started working for Hyundai Motorsport as a test driver. At least four appearances in the top tier of the World Rally Championship (WRC) are planned for 2015 . In his first rally for Hyundai, he narrowly missed the championship points ranks with eleventh place in Sweden.
