Sachari Schandow

Sachari Kostow Schandow ( Bulgarian Захари Костов Жандов ; born October 1, 1911 in Rustschuk ; † February 1, 1998 Sofia ) was a Bulgarian film director.

Life

He first studied mathematics and then administrative sciences at the University of National and World Economy . Schandow is considered one of the pioneers of film in socialist Bulgaria and became an important film director in the country. He also worked as a screenwriter and cameraman.

In 1957 his film In the Beginning It Was Love was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes International Film Festival . In 1969 he was a member of the jury of the 6th Moscow International Film Festival .

He was honored as a Hero of Socialist Labor and the Dimitrov Prize .
