Sachtler is a manufacturer of camera accessories and reportage lights based in Eching , Bavaria. The company was founded in 1958 and has been part of the Vitec Group plc since 1995 . which is based in the UK .

The company's founder, Wendelin Sachtler, was a cameraman and inventor . In 1958 he developed his own tripod head. The so-called gyro head could not only be swiveled and tilted, but was also dampened by a gyro system. The demand from colleagues for this fluid head led to the founding of the Sachtler company.

In 1958, Wendelin Sachtler started his work in Munich-Schwabing . Sachtler GmbH has had its headquarters in Eching near Munich since 2004 . The company has 150 employees worldwide and is represented by dealers in over 140 countries. The production facilities are located in Germany, Costa Rica and Great Britain.

In 1992 Sachtler was awarded the technical Oscar for their fluid heads.

The company portfolio can be divided into two different groups:

In 2001 Sachtler, together with the cameraman Curt O. Schaller, launched the "artemis" camera stabilization system.

In 2015 Curt O. Schaller developed the "artemis Trinity-System" together with the novel Foltyn, according to Sachtler the first camera stabilization system that combines a mechanical stabilization system with an electronic one. In April 2016, Schaller switched with its entire artemis product portfolio from Sachtler / Vitec Videocom to competitor ARRI , in order to advance the further development of artemis systems there as product manager for camera stabilization systems.
