Sacred Heart Church (Koror)

Sacred Heart Church (originally Sagrado Corazón ) is a Catholic church in Koror in the island state of Palau in the Pacific . The church is in the same neighborhood as the Stella Maris Elementary School and the Etpison Museum . The church belongs to the Diocese of Karolinen ( Dioecesis Carolinensium )

The current church was built on the site of the old Sagrado Corazón church , which was built in 1892 during the Spanish colonial era . When the church was built in 1935 it was the largest cement non-governmental building in Koror. It was built under the supervision of the Japanese colonial authorities and completed after eight years. Japanese officials were also present at the inauguration. The church is a simple hall with an apse to the east and arched windows.
