history
The texts are in Latin and French , the Latin part contains a quotation from Ps 24.7–8 EU . The extended trance mix from the CD single contains additional French sentences spoken by a man. The sentences and groans whispered by a woman in French are from the singer Sandra .
Most of the Gregorian chants come from the 1976 album Paschale Mysterium by the German choir Capella Antiqua Munich under the direction of Konrad Ruhland , especially from the track Procedamus in pace! ( Antiphon ) . The chorales were used without permission; a lawsuit in court followed in 1994, which was in favor of the plaintiff.
It was released on October 28, 1990. In Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Norway and Japan, the new age song was a number one hit .
Music video
The director of the video was Michel Guimbard. At the beginning of the music video you can see a scholar sitting at a desk (possible reference to Donatien Alphonse François de Sade ), who then begins to sleep and then appears at a ruin. He wanders through the ruins, comes to a portal reminiscent of Auguste Rodin's bronze cast Das Höllentor , and meets a beautiful succubus- like woman (played by Cathy Tastet). She whispers lip-synchronic in a seductive way: "Sade, dis-moi" and "Sade, donne-moi" (German: "Sade, befiehl mich! Sade, give it to me!"), Followed by a groan. The man turns around, tries to resist, finally gives in to his needs and is sucked through the gates of hell. Then he wakes up and discovers a light shining down on him.
In 2016 Sadeness (Part II) was released, which is a continuation of the first part.
