Popalzai
The Popalzai are a Durrani - Pashtun tribe with around 500,000 members .
They live in the southern Afghan provinces of Qandahar , Helmand , Nimrus and Uruzgan and are one of the most important and “noble” tribes of the Pashtuns in Afghanistan. Ahmad Shah Durrani founded the Durrani Empire in 1747 from the Popalzai tribe . Many Afghans see this empire, which stretched from Khorasan to Kashmir and Punjab , as the foundation stone for modern Afghanistan, which was ruled by Popalzai rulers until 1843. After that the country was ruled by clans from the Barakzai tribe (related to the Popalzai) .
