Sailana is a small town in Ratlam district in northwest Madhya Pradesh in western central India .
The city is located 20 km northwest of the district capital Ratlam and 50 km east of the city of Banswara . The national highway NH 927A (Ratlam – Banswara) passes the city.
Sailana has the status of a Nagar Panchayat . In the 2011 census, the population was 11,989.
Between 1736 and 1948, Sailana was the capital of what was then the princely state of the same name .
