history

The church can be traced back to a monastery founded by Blidulph von Metz in 938, which was a priory of the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Hydulphe in Moyenmoutier until the 13th century . Various building inscriptions for the nave and choir point to the first half of the 16th century, but the square west tower with the portal goes back to the 13th century. The Reformation was in 1561 by Egenolf III. introduced by Rappoltstein , the choir was used again for Roman Catholic worship under Louis XIV in 1686 .

construction

At the instigation of the Lords of Rappoltstein (Ribeaupierre), the vaulted choir, closed on three sides and dated by an inscription to 1531, and the nave in its current form were built in the 15th and 16th centuries. A wooden gallery from 1604 takes up more than half the area of the ship. The "gracefully situated church in the forest-lined valley" ( Walter Hotz ) originally served the miners employed here.
