The Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Limited ( Russian Сахалин Энерджи , Sakhalin Enerdschi ) is a consortium , the petroleum and natural gas on the island of Sakhalin in Russia promotes.

history

The company was founded in 1994 by the MMMMS consortium in order to operate the Sakhalin II funding project on the Sakhalin coast. Participating companies were Marathon , McDermott , Mitsui , Mitsubishi and Shell . In 1997 McDermott sold its shares to the other partners, in 2000 Marathon its to Shell. Since then this has had a capital majority of 55%.

In 2006, the Russian environmental inspectorate, Rosprirodnadzor, complained about a significant number of violations of environmental law and imposed extensive conditions, which led to construction work on the island being halted. The consortium was accused of discharging large quantities of industrial sewage into the sea and of causing significant environmental damage when the pipeline was being built on the island. It announced a $ 30 billion lawsuit against the company.

In 2007, the companies involved sold shares in the Russian company Gazprom , which gave it a majority of 50% plus one share. After that the work could be continued.

The company employs over 2,000 people. The headquarters are in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk .

activity

Sakhalin Energy produced 5.22 million tons of crude oil (41.01 million barrels) in 2015 and sold it to Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Indonesia. After production, natural gas is partially liquefied and sold to Japan, South Korea, China and Taiwan. The rest of the natural gas is piped to the Russian mainland ü as far as Khabarovsk and Vladivostok.

Sakjalin Energy employs over 2,000 people. Annual sales in 2015 were $ 6.192 billion and profits were $ 1.962 billion.

Sakhalin Energy supports the Association of the Indigenous Peoples of the North and their Batani Foundation. In 2009 she joined the UN social organization United Nations Global Compact .
