J. Ray McDermott

In 1950, the first platform made entirely of concrete was installed by JRM in the Gulf of Mexico . In 1954, the first platform was built in a water depth of approx. 30 m (100 ft) and only two years later the Morgan City production plant in the US state of Louisiana was opened. This plant was the first plant in the world that was specially built for the production of offshore structures.

In 1985, Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. for HeereMac , a joint venture between McDermott and Heerema Marine Contractors , the McDermott Derrick Barge No. 102 built. Today as Thialf known workboat is the most powerful floating crane in the world with a capacity of 14,000 tonnes (t) in tandem. Only three years later, in 1988, the DB50 , at that time the most powerful monohull floating crane in the world with a capacity of 3992 t, was acquired. Another record for pipeline laying in the Gulf of Mexico was set by J. Ray in 1989 when a line was laid at 1,350 feet between the Shell Bullwinkle and Boxer platforms.

In 1993, J. Ray laid pipelines for the first time using the J-Lay method as part of the Auger project for Shell. The laying took place at the record depth of up to 720 m (2860 ft).

The Shell Brutus project laid around 26 kilometers (around 16 miles) of 20-inch pipeline in 2000. With a depth of around 920 m (3010 ft), this was the greatest depth at which a pipeline was laid using the S-Lay method.

In May 2018, the merger of the Chicago Bridge & Iron Company with McDermott International was announced. The merged company has since acted as McDermott and the listing of the previous CB&I was discontinued.
