Sakkur

Sakkur is the name of eight people in the Old Testament .

etymology

The Hebrew name Sakkur always appears in the Masoretic text in the spelling זַכּוּר zakkûr . It is the short form of a verb sentence name in which the theophore element has failed. The structure of the name makes, in analogy to Shammua, likely that the long form of the name * זְכַרְיָה was zəkharjāh . Zechariah / Sacharja is a verbal set name consisting of verb and subject. The verb with the root זכר zkr means “to remember”, the subject is יָה jāh ( YHWH ). The name therefore means "YHWH remembered". The short form means "(God) remembered". An interpretation of the name as a passive participle ("the (of God) remembered") does not seem to come into question, since intransitive verbs also form short forms of the same form, from which no passive meaning can be derived. The short forms Secher, Sichri and the rudimentary form Sakkai can also be derived from the root זכר zkr “to remember”.

The Septuagint gives the name as Ζακχουρ zakchur , in Esr 8,14  LXX the name is missing.
