Alexander Alexandrovich Drenteln ( Russian Алекса́ндр Алекса́ндрович Дрентельн ; born January 19, 1868 in Saint Petersburg , † May 1, 1925 in Odessa ) was a Russian major general à la suite . He was the commander of the Preobrazhensk Life Guard Regiment and was considered a “ hero of the First World War ” in the Russian Empire .

Life

Alexander Alexandrovich attended the first 1886 school in Kiev and completed a degree at the University of Saint Petersburg . He joined the Preobrazhensky Life Guard Regiment as a volunteer in 1890 and served as a guard . He passed the officer's examination in 1891 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1895 . His further career was promotions to staff leader (1900), captain (1903), colonel (1910) and major general (1915). From 1902 to 1906 he was a company commander in the Preobrazhensky Regiment. He was then appointed adjutant and served with Tsar Nicholas II (1868–1918) in the military operations office. In the years 1909–1915 he was a staff officer in the imperial operations command. On November 28, 1915, he was appointed commander of the Preobrazhensk Regiment, while being promoted to major general à la suite. Major General Drenteln was discharged from the military on April 27, 1917 and remained in the Soviet Union after the October Revolution . He spent his twilight years in the province of Vologda , where he worked as a miller in a monastery . He died on May 1, 1925 as a result of thrombophlebitis .

Origin and family

Alexander Alexandrowitsch came from the Baltic-Swedish noble family of Drenteln . His father was the Russian infantry general Alexander Romanowitsch Drenteln (1820-1888), who was married to Maria Vyatkin († 1917). AA Drenteln marries Helene von Lerche in 1st marriage and Anna Alexandrowna Popova (* 1868) in 2nd marriage, they had no male offspring.
