Salir do Porto is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district of Caldas da Rainha . The community had 795 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
On September 29, 2013 the municipalities of Salir do Porto and Tornada were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Tornada e Salir do Porto .
history
The community received city rights ( Foral ) by King Manuel I in 1515 , but historians have different opinions as to whether the place first city rights under King Sancho I (1154-1211) or even under his father D.Afonso Henriques ( 1109–1185), Portugal's first king.
Culture and sights
The ruins of the Barbara Chapel ( Ruínas da Capela de Santana ) above the coast and the parish church Igreja Paroquial de Salir do Porto (also Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição ), built in the 18th century, are listed buildings.
