Salisbury is a village ( Village ) in Westmorland County in the Canadian province of New Brunswick with 2,145 inhabitants (2011).
geography
Moncton is 15 miles to the east. Petitcodiac is about twelve kilometers to the southwest. The Petitcodiac River touches Salisbury in the south. The connecting roads New Brunswick Route 2 , New Brunswick Route 106 and New Brunswick Route 112 run through the place.
history
The first European settlers came from Yorkshire in 1774 and chose the site because of its fertile soil on the Petitcodiac River and the wealth of forest in the area. Agriculture and timber were therefore also the livelihoods of the inhabitants for many years. After 1900 Salisbury was a center for the breeding of silver foxes and for the processing of silver fox skins for a few years . The furs of this color variant of the red fox were in great demand all over the world at that time. To this day, the nickname Home of the Silver Fox has been preserved for the place. There is also a large statue of a silver fox at a crossroads. In 1966 the place received the status of Village .
