Sallern (from Celtic sal: rush, stream ) is part of the 04 Sallern-Gallingkofen district of the city of Regensburg . Between the rain and the slopes of the Sallerner Berg, the place stretches along the old trade route from Regensburg to Amberg .

The name Sallern has already been interpreted in various ways. According to Ernst Schwarz , the place name goes back to the time of the Illyrians . The Illyrian form "salaria" means "people by the river" . During foundation work in 1830, at the southern exit of Sallern, in addition to the remains of at least two skeletons, a pair of golden pendants from the Lombard period were found. In the Middle Ages, Sallern with its castle complex was the seat of several noble families.

Today Sallern is best known for the school on Sallerner Berg, the waterworks and the weather station of the German Meteorological Service on Sallerner Berg.
