The Catholic parish church of the Assumption of Mary is located at Sallerergasse 4 in the Sallern district of Regensburg .

history

The parish of Sallern was first mentioned in 1161. In 1228 the then orphaned parish came to the Regensburg Cathedral Chapter . In the 13th century, the parish of Sallern included the villages of Gallingkofen, Wutzlhofen, Haslbach, Reinhausen, Weichs, Kareth, Rehtal and Winzer. Around 1770 Sallern was a place of pilgrimage to Mary. The copper engraving of the miraculous image of grace comes from this time . The church is the oldest building in Sallern. In 1939 the interior of the church was renovated. In 1961/62 the late Gothic frescoes in the chancel and the probably late Baroque ceiling painting of the Coronation of Mary are exposed. In 2008 the interior of the church was renovated again.

The parish church in Sallern was the mother parish of the entire north of the city; In the 13th century, the places Gallingkofen , Wutzlhofen , Haslbach , Reinhausen , Weichs , Kareth , Rehtal and Winzer were looked after from Sallern. Since 1913 the parish of Reinhausen no longer belongs to the parish of Sallern; After the side church of St. Nikolaus in Reinhausen, which had been administered from Sallern up until then, had become too small for the grown Reinhausen community, the construction of the parish church of St. Josef (Reinhausen) was planned and implemented by the Sallern pastor Michael Wieshuber. The parish of Reinhausen has been independent since the canonical establishment of the parish in 1913 and manages the ancillary church of St. Nicholas on the Regenufer and the community in Weichs from the parish church of St. Josef. The other former congregations that belonged to it are now largely independent, but only the Reinhausen parish church was built from Sallern with such great effort.

Since 2016 the parish of Sallern has formed a parish community with St. Josef Reinhausen.

The church is essentially a Romanesque hall building with a gable roof . In addition to Romanesque arched windows, the church also has baroque elements and a retracted Gothic choir with ribbed vaults from the second half of the 14th century. The small choir flank tower with a dome roof dates from the 12th century. The nave was rebuilt in the 18th century and extended in 1933. The late Gothic frescoes in the presbytery date from around 1500. In the 18th century the church interior was redesigned in the Baroque style and an onion was added to the tower.

Inside there are late Gothic frescoes, a Baroque figure of Mary and the red marble epitaph of Hans von Leublfing from 1577.

The cemetery has a medieval stone wall. The late Gothic light column with tabernacle on shaft with relief panels is from the beginning of the 15th century. The cemetery cross (marked "1904") made of iron band has a body of the cast-iron four-nail type.
