Sally Green

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sally Green , married Sally Prouty , (born December 23, 1922 in St. Louis - † September 7, 2014 ) was an American table tennis player. She was the best female table tennis player in the United States in the 1940s and competed in the 1955 World Cup.

Life

Sally Green was encouraged to do sports because of health problems in her childhood. Initially, she focused on swimming, and at the age of 11 she began playing table tennis under the guidance of her father, Fred Green. Here she made rapid progress. First she won several local national tournaments, from 1940 to 1944 she was American champion five times in a row. She declined an invitation to the 1938 World Cup because she gave her school education priority and also began to play the piano. In 1955 she took part in the World Cup, with the American women's team she came in tenth.

In 1979 she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of American Table Tennis.

other activities

Sally Prouty-Green was also involved in music, in particular she played the piano and organ and also sang herself (so she didn't let others sing for them). She graduated from Butler University .
