Salmendinger Chapel

The Salmendinger Chapel was first mentioned in 1507, when Peter Schweiher von Straßberg publicly announced that his little boy had asked him for a donation for the "foundation on the Kornbühel and that he asked the holy Frouwen sant annen". Probably it wasn't about building the chapel - it should be older. The Renaissance altar dates from the second half of the 17th century. A way of the cross with 14 stations, laid out in 1886, leads to the summit with three crosses, which symbolize the Calvary . In 1957 and 1974 the chapel was broken into and several valuable figures of saints were stolen, including in 1957 the Kornbühl Madonna, standing on a crescent moon. After the second theft, all of the originals were removed from the chapel and replaced by photographs. In 1983 the stolen Saint Wendelin reappeared in the art trade, there is no trace of the other stolen items.
