Life

Hegner was the son of Salomon Hegner zum Egli (1744–1800) and Anna Hegner, b. Sulzer (1760–1829) from Winterthur. His maternal grandparents were Dr. med. Hans Heinrich Sulzer (March 8, 1736 - April 19, 1827), the last city physician of Winterthur, and Elisabeth Sulzer , b. Reinhart (February 23, 1732 - January 1, 1797) from Winterthur. When his father Salomon Hegner zum Egli died in 1800, Salomon Hegner inherited the house at the Schanzengarten at Büelrainstrasse 15 in Winterthur. The house brought into marriage the first wife of Salomon Hegner zum Egli, Margareta Steiner, when they married in 1762. The house "Zum Schanzengarten", where the music publisher Jakob Melchior Rieter-Biedermann later lived, has been a listed building since 2011.

In 1816, Hegner married the second daughter of the German-Swiss entrepreneur Johann Sebastian von Clais , Susanna von Clais (1789-1853). Hegner was one of the lead engineers in the Glatt and Linth correction project . From 1853 Colonel Salomon Hegner resided at Eppishausen Castle .
