Salvador is a former municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese region of Alentejo . It was a municipality in the district ( concelho ) of Serpa and had 4,359 inhabitants on an area of ​​289 km² (as of June 30, 2011).

Parts of the urban area of ​​Serpa belonged to the municipality, including sections of the old city wall and the campsite outside .

In addition to other places and localities, the municipality of Santa Iria , which was independent until 1936, belonged to Salvador.

With the territorial reform of September 29, 2013 , the municipalities of Salvador and Santa Maria were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Serpa (Salvador e Santa Maria) . Salvador became the seat of this newly formed community.
