Named after | Alessandro Salvio |
The Salvio Gambit is a variant of the King 's Gambit in chess . The trains are
1. e2 – e4 e7 – e5
2. f2 – f4 e5xf4
3. Ng1 – f3 g7 – g5
4. Bf1 – c4 g5 – g4
5. Nf3 – e5
The German philosopher and psychologist Franz Brentano , a nephew of the writers Clemens Brentano and Bettina von Arnim , suggested the move 5.… d7 – d5 as an answer.
Immediate 5.… Ng8 – h6 gives White time for 6. 0–0.
White's last move, however, allows queen chess on h4, which is why most continuations begin with 5.… Qd8 – h4 + 6. Ke1 – f1, which means that Black takes the initiative :
- Silberschmidt Gambit 6.… Ng8 – h6 7. d2 – d4 f4 – f3, which is named after the chess player Hirsch Silberschmidt .
-
Herzfeld Gambit 6.… Nb8 – c6, named after Sebastian Herzfeld. The Herzfeld Gambit was played for the first time in 1882 against Wilhelm Steinitz in Vienna.
Now only taking with the bishop is justifiable: 7. Bc4xf7 + Ke8 – e7 8. Ne5xc6 + d7xc6 9. Bf7 – b3.
7. Ne5xf7 Bf8 – c5 8. Qd1 – e1 g4 – g3 9. Nf7xh8 Bc5 – f2 with the idea of Nf6 – g4 is too slow for White.
- Cochrane Gambit 6.… f3.
