The salt mountain is 394.4 m above sea level. NN high mountain spur of the northern Harz border, from Blankenburg in the Harz district , Saxony-Anhalt .
Geographical location
The salt mountain is located in the Lower Harz in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt nature park , about 2 km west of Blankenburg- Oesig . The Schmerlenbach rises to the west of its summit , and to the east lies the Michaelstein Monastery at the exit of the Klostergrund .
geology
The mountain lies within the Salzberg Formation, a lithostratigraphic unit of the Upper Cretaceous (lower Middle Santonium; cordiformis zone) in the southeast section of the Subherzynen Chalk Basin .
