The Salzburger Stadtwerke AG were an Austrian utilities and transport companies from Salzburg . The public limited company was founded in 1950 on the basis of a municipal council decision on July 3, when the merger of the Städtische Elektrizitätswerke Salzburg, founded in 1887, with the municipal transport company of Salzburg , founded in 1940, was decided. The gas and water supply was also integrated into the new company.

In transport, the Salzburg municipal utility took over from its predecessor companies, the railway line Salzburg-slope Enderstein , the railway line Salzburg Lamprechtshausen , the funicular to the fortress , the trolleybus Salzburg and the 1965 set Salzach -Fähre of Aigen in the Josefiau . They also operated on behalf of Stiegl - or from 1 January 1977 on behalf of the connecting railways AG - the Stiegl train , one operated only in the freight rail connection . The municipal utilities were also responsible for the Mönchsberg lift , which opened in 1890, and for the municipal bus service that began in 1950 . This began with the opening of line E to Aigen on November 1, 1950. The exact name of the transport division was Salzburger Stadtwerke - Verkehrsbetriebe , SStW-VB for short , or from 1972 Salzburger Verkehrsbetriebe , SVB for short . In early 1953, the Stadtwerke also took over the operation of the Bürmoos – Trimmelkam railway line , which originally belonged to Stern & Hafferl Verkehrsgesellschaft .

On September 15, 2000, the Salzburger Stadtwerke finally merged with the Salzburger AG für Elektrizitätswirtschaft  (SAFE), founded in 1920, to form today's Salzburg AG .
