The Salzburg – Lamprechtshausen railway line , usually referred to as the local line, is a 25.598 kilometer branch line in Austria . The standard-gauge and electrified line leads from Salzburg Central Station to Lamprechtshausen . Operationally, it is closely linked to the branch line to Ostermiething that branches off in Bürmoos . Both railways are now operated by Salzburg AG (together with Pinzgauer Lokalbahn ) under the marketing name of Salzburger Lokalbahn ( SLB ). The Lamprechtshausener branch is integrated as S1 into the network of the Salzburg S-Bahn , the trains to and from Ostermiething run - sometimes continuously to Salzburg - as S11. In the past, the railway was also called the Red Electric , based on the color of the vehicles .

In the south, was until 1953 a continuation by the operated by the same company Lokalbahn Salzburg slope Enderstein including branch to Parsch , to delineate this south line or Südlokalbahn named range called to the Lamprechtshausener road formerly known as Northern Line or North local railway . The south branch was in turn closely linked to the also decommissioned Salzburg tram ( Yellow Electric ) and the former Berchtesgaden – Hangender Stein ( Green Electric ) railway .

history

Before construction began, it was planned to connect the Salzburg Local Railway with the Mattig Valley Railway . The route should have led via Bürmoos to a point on the Mattig Valley Railway that has not yet been determined. Braunau am Inn is mentioned as a possible end point . Approval for preliminary technical work was granted in 1884. However, the intended connection never came about.

The local railway to Flachgau was originally operated as a steam tram , it was put into operation in two sections by the former Salzburg Railway and Tramway Company (SETG):

  • January 20, 1896: Salzburg local train station - Oberndorf
  • May 16, 1896: Oberndorf – Lamprechtshausen

Later the line was electrified with 1000 volts direct current as follows :

  • July 1, 1909: Salzburg local train station - Itzling depot
  • August 26, 1923: Remise Itzling – Maria Plain
  • May 15, 1927: Maria Plain – Bergheim
  • May 4, 1947: Bergheim – Anthering
  • November 16, 1948: Anthering – Oberndorf train station
  • January 13, 1950: Oberndorf Bahnhof – Lamprechtshausen

After the SETG was liquidated in 1948, the Salzburg municipal transport company was responsible for the route, which in turn was absorbed by the Salzburg municipal utilities in 1950 .

After the local railway was considered to be at risk of recruitment in the 1970s, those responsible managed to modernize the line and secure its future. The most striking expansion measure was the construction of a new underground terminus in Salzburg ("New Local Station"), which went into operation in 1996.

From May 30, 2016 to May 16, 2017, the Weitwörth-Nußdorf train station was modernized and the section between Weitwörth-Nußdorf and Oichtensiedlung was expanded to two tracks.

The Oberndorf Stadt stop , which was called Oberndorf Markt until the rise of Markt Oberndorf to a municipality in 2000 , has been called Oberndorf-Laufen since the end of May 2016 , as the Bavarian municipality of Laufen opposite Oberndorf is within walking distance.

A possible extension of the route to Hallein including an underground crossing of the Salzach and the old town is currently being discussed , the latter being the priority. According to a study, around 30,000 passengers a day would be expected. As a result, this extension would be the basis for future projects in the direction of Berchtesgaden , Mondsee , Königssee , Fuschlsee , as well as the reactivation of the Salzkammergut local railway to Bad Ischl . The planning and construction time for the first expansion stage was given as five to six years each. This means that commissioning can be expected from 2025 at the earliest. As a first step in 2018, the city senate decided to extend the underground route by approx. 750 m to Mirabellplatz , with a passenger volume of up to 1.1 million per year.

The railway is part of the Salzburger Verkehrsverbund , which operates across borders with Bavaria.
