Sam Lazar

Sam Lazar (* approx. 1933 in St. Louis , Missouri ) is a former American jazz pianist who emerged as a soul jazz organist from 1958 .

Live and act

Lazar began his career in St. Louis as a pianist with Ernie Wilkins before briefly playing with Count Basie . He then worked in George Hudson's Big Band and Tab Smith . From 1951 to 1953 he did his military service. After his release, he began training as an MTA . Under the influence of a concert by Jimmy Smith and his trio at the Peacock Alley Club in St. Louis in 1958, he switched to the Hammond organ and returned to the music scene. Lazar worked in St. Louis with an organ combo that included musicians such as Grant Green , Joe Diorio, and drummer Phillip Wilson . In 1960 a first album was created for Argo ( Space Flight ), on which bassist Willie Dixon also participated. From 1964 on, Lazar's traces are lost.
