Sam Ricketts (born October 11, 1981 in Aylesbury , England ) is a former Welsh football player .

Player career

National

After several engagements at lower class clubs, Sam Ricketts moved to Swansea City in 2004 . With the Welsh in his first year he was promoted to Football League One , the third English division. There he immediately became a regular player and also a national player for his country.

In the summer of 2006 Ricketts was signed by the second division club Hull City , with whom he rose to the Premier League in 2007/08 . On August 16, 2008 he made his debut in England's top division in a 2-1 home win over Fulham FC . In 2009 he then moved to the Bolton Wanderers . Both clubs have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee. For the 2013/14 season Ricketts received an engagement with the second division relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers .

International

Sam Ricketts has played for the Welsh national football team since 2005 .

Coaching career

For the 2018/19 season, Ricketts took over the position of head coach at the Welsh club AFC Wrexham , which are playing in the English fifth division , after previously working in the youth division of Wolverhampton Wanderers . After a good start to the season, in which he led the previous tenth to fourth place in the table by the beginning of December 2018, he moved as head coach to the English third division club Shrewsbury Town .
