Samaiões is a town and former municipality ( Freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) Chaves . It has 1327 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

In the course of the territorial reform of September 29, 2013 , the municipality was largely merged with Madalena to form the new municipality União das Freguesias de Madalena e Samaiões . A small part of the municipality north of the Tâmega was transferred to the municipality of Santa Maria Maior .

The seat of the new municipality is Madalena.
