history

Samara Airlines was founded in 1996 and began flight operations with aircraft from Aeroflot's inventory . In 1998–2000 the company won an award for the best Russian airline three times in a row. In 2005 the company had over 1500 employees. The company is under the influence of the Russian airline managers and twin brothers Boris and Alexander Michailowitsch Abramowitsch, who hold a 40% stake in the airline. It is headed by General Director Sergei Mordwinzew.

In 2004 the company merged with four other Russian airlines owned by the Abramowitsch brothers to form the alliance AiRUnion . At the end of 2007 it was planned that the five companies would then merge under the name AirUnion to form a large airline - but this never happened, as AirUnion ceased operations in September 2008 due to financial problems and thus sealed the end of Samara Airlines was.
