Groupage transport

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As groupage (or groupage transport ) refers to a special form of freight transport of cargo . The goods come from different senders and are sent to different recipients. They are picked up in advance by the shipping agent from the consignors in the source area and combined into a groupage for the main run .

From a legal point of view, the freight forwarder only transports one shipment in the main leg and not several. Occasionally, the freight forwarder also transports consignments from loose loaders in groupage traffic . At the transhipment warehouse of the receiving freight forwarder , the groupage is broken up again into individual consignments for onward carriage and delivered to the respective recipient in the destination area.

According to German transport law , the freight forwarder is treated like a carrier if the goods are in his care as a groupage ( Section 460 HGB ). This applies in particular to the liability regulations.
