Dogan Collection

The Dogan Collection is the only published collection of coins and medals dealing with Turkish history .

The collector

The collector Hüseyin A. Dogan, better known as Amca among collectors, was born in Manisa in 1940 . In 1965 he emigrated to the Netherlands , where he still lives today. Since 1966 he has been collecting medals that deal with the history of the Turks and especially the Turkish wars.

The collection

The collection included 894 coins and medals, all of which deal with Turkish history and personalities who play a role in Turkish history. It contained both contemporary coins and modern medals related to historical events .

The historical framework begins in 1071 with the Seljuks via Byzantium at Manzikert . A special focus was the Turkish Wars with the first Turkish siege in 1529 and the second Turkish siege of Vienna in 1683. Numerous rare medals were collected for the 19th and 20th centuries, some of which were published for the first time in the auction catalog of the Dogan Collection.

The collection was auctioned on October 15, 2008 in Munich by the auction house Gorny & Mosch , Giessener Münzhandlung.
