The Samsung Galaxy Book is a Windows 10 based 2-in-1 PC (convertible), which is produced and marketed by Samsung Electronics . There are 2 models: a 10.6-inch model and a 12-inch model, each WiFi-only or with an LTE modem.

publication

On February 27, 2017, Samsung presented the Galaxy Book together with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 at MWC 2017. While not considered a direct successor to the similar Samsung Galaxy TabPro S, the Galaxy Book shows some notable improvements over its predecessor.

features

Both the 10.6-inch and 12-inch models have some features that are normally only found in the Samsung Galaxy Note series, such as: B. Air Command, Smart Select, Samsung Notes etc. Both models have a removable keyboard cover with touchpad and an S-pen (the first time on a Windows product). With it a software is delivered with which one can take notes. The keyboard is illuminated (12 inch version). The Galaxy Book also supports Fast Charging technology, which allows the tablet to fully charge in less time. In terms of battery life, they claim the 10.6-inch option will last 9 hours and the 12-inch model will last 11 hours (when playing video).

The convertible has a USB 3.1 connection type C (two in the 12 inch version), an adapter for USB sticks of type A must be purchased additionally. There is also a microSD slot and the LTE version has a slot for nano SIM. The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels, a camera is only available in the 12 inch version and has 13 megapixels.

There is a small ventilation duct on the upper side. There is a light sensor to adjust the brightness, but also other sensors to recognize the position or to play games where you can move with tilting.

The Samsung Galaxy Book display has a 1920 × 1280 Full HD TFT (10.6 inch) and 2160 × 1440 Full HD + Super AMOLED (12 inch) resolution with an aspect ratio of 3: 2. The touchscreen has 4096 levels of sensitivity.

software

Windows 10 Home (on both 10.6 "versions and 12" WiFi only) and Windows 10 Pro on 12 "LTE version are installed; it cannot be downgraded or can only be downgraded with great difficulty, like Windows 7 for which a BIOS interrupt for video playback missing. Windows 8.1 can be installed, but there is no wireless driver.

Dolby Access is pre-installed and can be tested for 30 days.

review

Chip.de tested the tablet (10.6 "LTE) and gave it a good result. Computer Bild tested the 12-inch version of the tablet and gave it a grade of 2.5. The performance, touchscreen, equipment and design are rated positively , and it is well made; the few connections are criticized for this. A lot of heat is also said to develop on the underside, 29.8 degrees were measured in the test.
