Samuel Atrous (born February 15, 1990 in Roncq ) is a French football goalkeeper .

Club career

Atrous began playing football at the age of four at a small club in Hem , northern France. He also played briefly for a club from Lille before he was accepted into the youth of the traditional club RC Lens in 2001 at the age of eleven . At Lens he was accepted into the reserve team in 2008. At first, the young goalkeeper only played irregularly for the fourth division team, but was accepted into the professional squad in 2009. Although the then 19-year-old was not able to book any appearances in the first division, from then on he played regularly for the second team. In 2011 he had to accept the relegation of the first team to the second division without active participation. After he had been part of the professional team for two years in 2011 without ever being allowed to play for it, Atrous was awarded to third division club Aviron Bayonnais for the 2011/12 season. There the goalkeeper couldn't get past a single third division game due to an injury, which is why he returned to Lens in January 2012 because of a previous agreement between the clubs.

Unlike in previous years, when Atrous had mostly played for the reserve, he was scheduled as a substitute goalkeeper behind Rudy Riou for the 2012/2013 season and therefore usually sat on the bench. When Riou stayed in the dressing room due to an injury after half-time, the 23-year-old Atrous took over his position on March 4, 2013 in a 2-1 draw against FC Nantes , making his second division and professional debut. A goal in stoppage time prevented him from conceding a clean sheet. On April 12th of the same year Atrous ran against SM Caen for the first time from the start and played his first professional game without conceding a goal in the 0-0. In the course of the 2013/14 season, however, he was not called up for the professional team and so had no direct share in the first division promotion achieved at the end of the season.

After jumping into the top division, he remained unchanged in his reserve role in Lens. After his contract ended in the summer of 2015, he was temporarily without a club before joining the fourth division club IC Croix in November 2015.

National team

Even if he had not played a single professional appearance despite his 21 years, Atrous was considered for the French U-21 selection in 2011 . In the 1-1 draw in the friendly against Ukraine on June 5, 2011, he sat behind Joris Delle on the bench, but was substituted on at half-time and remained clean. For Atrous it was the only international match.
