Samuel Augustine Miller (born October 16, 1819 in Shenandoah County , Virginia , † November 19, 1890 in Parkersburg , West Virginia ) was an American officer and politician who was a member of the Congress of the Confederate States of America for two years .

Life

Miller served as a major in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War . After the resignation of Albert Gallatin Jenkins , he was elected to the House of Representatives of the 1st Confederate States of America in a by-election for Virginia and assumed the mandate on February 24, 1863. During that legislature he was a member of the Territories and Public Committee Lands.

In the elections for the 2nd Confederate Congress in November 1863, he was re-elected and was formally a member from May 2, 1864 to March 18, 1865. However, the MPs could only exercise their mandate during the first year of the two-year electoral term, as the existence of the Confederate States was practically ended with the loss of the Civil War. During the second legislative period he was a member of the electoral committee and the committee for Indian affairs.

In 1874 he was briefly a member of the West Virginia House of Representatives , where he represented Kanawha County .

After his death, Miller was buried in Spring Hill Cemetery in Charleston .
