Sir Samuel Chapman ( 1860 - April 29, 1947 ) was a British politician. For his valuable service in Perthshire during World War I , he was promoted to Knight Bachelor on March 4, 1920 .

Political career

For the first time Murray appeared in the general election in 1906 in the Perth constituency for elections at the national level. As a candidate of the Conservative Party , however, he could not prevail against the liberal Robert Wallace and thus missed the entry into the British House of Commons . Despite winning votes, Chapman had to admit defeat to the liberal Alexander Frederick Whyte in the following general election in January 1910 .

In the general election in December 1910 , Chapman ran for Greenock constituency . On election day, however, he was just as unable to prevail against Godfrey Collins as he was in the 1918 elections , when Chapman was running for the Unionist Party founded in 1912 .

After his party colleague Charles Murray , who held the mandate of the constituency of Edinburgh South since 1918 , did not run for the general election in 1922 , Chapman ran in this constituency. He won the election clearly against his opponent Catherine Alderton and moved into the House of Commons for the first time. In the following general election in 1923 , 1924 , 1929 , 1931 and 1935 he held his mandate. In the general election in 1945 Chapman did not run and he resigned from parliament. The mandate for Edinburgh South held his party colleague William Darling .
