Samuel Jackson Barnett
Samuel Jackson Barnett (born December 14, 1873 in Woodson County , † May 22, 1956 in Pasadena, California ) was an American physicist .
Barnett received his BS in physics from the University of Denver in 1894 and his PhD from Cornell University in 1898 . From 1898 to 1918 he taught at numerous universities. From 1918 to 1926 Barnett was at the Carnegie Institution for Science and since 1926 professor at the University of California, Los Angeles .
He is the discoverer of the Barnett effect named after him .
