Samuel Lanz (* 1983 in Basel ) is a Swiss politician who has been General Secretary of the FDP since August 2014 .

Lanz studied political science at the University of Zurich and the University of Warwick , and in 2011 he received his master's degree in the special field of international security. During his studies, he worked in the General Secretariat of the FDP Liberal Switzerland, as a member of the communications team, he accompanied a. a. the 2010 federal elections and the 2011 parliamentary elections . After completing his master's degree, he held this position full-time for another six months. In 2012, Lanz became a research assistant in the office of the head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), Federal Councilor Didier Burkhalter . From 2013 to 2014 he worked as a consultant in the EDA general secretariat.

Political activity

Lanz was a board member of the Basel-Stadt Jungfreisinnigen during and after his studies . In 2010 he won the first Basel Political Battle, in which u. a. Quick-wittedness and quick comprehension were crucial. From 2009–2012 he was the managing director of FDP International, which he also presided over from 2011 to 2012. He was president of a neighborhood association (section) of the FDP Basel-Stadt . In mid-2014, Samuel Lanz was elected General Secretary of the party by the conference of the cantonal presidents of the FDP.
