Samuel Richter
Samuel Richter (* late 17th century in Reichau , Silesia; † after 1722), also known as Sincerus Renatus , was a German theologian , alchemist and Rosicrucian who strongly influenced Rosicrucianism in the 18th century with his alchemical treatises and writings.
Life
After studying theology in Wittenberg (1703) and Halle (1707), Richter was for a time tutor of a noble family and later a preacher in Hartmannsdorf near Landeshut (today Kamienna Góra ). In the years 1710/11 he published alchemical and theosophical writings in Breslau for the first time. Among other things, one of his writings contained instructions for the “preparation of the philosophical stone ” in which he first mentioned the brotherhood of the Gold and Rosicrucians . After judges were accused of religious enthusiasm, he left Silesia and went to Prussia , where he turned to mining. At that time he also made the acquaintance of the mining director and royal Prussian legation councilor Georg von Welling . Against Welling's will, Samuel Richter published his opus mago-cabbalisticum et theosophicum in 1719 . In the course of his last publication on Aurum Potabile or drinking gold in 1722, all traces of his person are lost. His Theo-Philosophia , which is strongly based on Jakob Böhme and Paracelsus , was already considered a classic of hermetics in the 18th century .
His pseudonym Sincerus Renatus (roughly: "the sincere risen one") suggests the mindset of Samuel Richter, who as a pietist believed in the idea of rebirth .
Samuel Richter was counted by his writings to the later authorities of the 1756 founded order of the Gold and Rosicrucians.
