The San Bernardo Archipelago , Spanish Archipiélago de San Bernardo , is an archipelago in the Caribbean Sea . The archipelago consists of ten islands , all of which are part of Colombia . The islands are about 20 kilometers off the South American coast and about 80 kilometers southwest of the city of Cartagena . Together with the Islas del Rosario, the archipelago forms one of the 52 natural parks in Colombia and can be reached by boat from the city of Tolú . Administratively, the archipelago belongs largely to the municipality of Cartagena in the Department of Bolívar . Only the island of Boquerón belongs to the municipality of San Onofre in the department of Sucre .
The total area of the islands is 4.5 km² or 450 hectares ; Tintipán (331.5 hectares) takes up almost three quarters (74 percent) of this.

By far the largest island is Tintipán . Most of the approximately 1,300 inhabitants of the archipelago live on the tiny island of Santa Cruz del Islote , one of the most densely populated islands on earth. Some of the islands, such as Múcura and Tintipán, have tourist infrastructure.
