The San Bernardino is a tributary of Lake Maggiore in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province in Piedmont , Italy . The San Bernardino arises in the Val Grande National Park at the confluence of the two source streams Rio Valgrande and Rio Pogallo . Between Pallanza and Intra , the river flows into Lake Maggiore at an altitude of 193  m slm . The 132.35 km² catchment area includes the Val Grande and Val Pogallo valleys .
