description

About a kilometer east of Albreda is San Domingo, near Juffure (also known as Jillifree ), a former English settlement. It was the first settlement of the Portuguese in the late 15th century. The settlement included gardens, a church with a cemetery and walls. Of that, only the ruins of a small house remain that were built from lateritic stones and lime mortar .

The remains of the rubble of a two-story stone house and two walls can still be seen, the locations of two or three other houses are marked by stone stakes and the cemetery is covered by the undergrowth. The ruins were stabilized before further deterioration in July 2000. The external dimensions of the building are 8.5 × 8.5 meters.
