description
The remains of the chapel (sometimes referred to as the church ) are around 100 meters west of today's landing stage at Albreda , a former French trading post with fortifications. The chapel was built by the Portuguese in the late 15th century and was one of the first Christian church buildings in the region. A little more than 50 percent of the walls of the chapel remain; the back wall is still in full height. A metal cross is mounted on its top .
The building, with two entrances, was made of standing stone and laterite stone , using lime mortar . The ruins were stabilized before further decay in July 2000. The external dimensions of the building are 6.15 × 9.25 meters; the height of the roof ridge is 4.45 meters and the eaves height is 2.92 meters.
