The parish was founded on October 16, 1954 with the decree Pontifice Maximo by Cardinal Vicar Clemente Micara and entrusted to the religious order of the Minorites. With the decree of Cardinal Vicar Camillo Ruini on July 9, 1993, the diocese of Rome was reorganized. On February 21, 2001, the elevation to the title church of the Roman Catholic Church by Pope John Paul II followed. The patron saint is St. Francis of Assisi .
The church is located at Largo Cesidio da Fossa 18 in the Villaggio San Francesco in Roma Capitale .
