On the night of September 15-16, 1945, the team bus of the Rayados de Monterrey football club caught fire in an accident in this town and eight of its players suffered severe burns, some of which two players did not survive. The accident occurred on the way to an away game of the Mexican soccer league in the 1945/46 season at the Guadalajara- based Club Deportivo Oro .
