San Juan del Paraná is a municipality and a district in the Itapúa department in southern Paraguay with 9700 inhabitants. He was given the name of Saint San Juan Bautista y Paraná because of its proximity to the Río Paraná . The district was founded on December 19, 1988 as a split from the Encarnación district . It is predominantly agricultural, but tourism should play a bigger role in the future. For this purpose, a coastal road (Costanera) and a sandy beach on the five-kilometer-wide river were created in 2018, similar to the model of the neighboring town of Encarnación.
